Bovada Review 2020

Bovada Review 2020

Bovada is an excellent place to bet on sports with Bitcoin. It also has a casino and a poker room, but these take second place to their sportsbook. They also have better odds for newer players that become worse the more you win. We find this odd, but it seems designed to pull new players into the games. They charge a lot of fees if you use your credit cards so it’s only a place to go with Bitcoin. With Bitcoin, however, it is an excellent sportsbook choice. If you want to play casino games or poker and use your card you can find better elsewhere.

Bovada: Pros & Cons
  • Attractive starting odds
  • Decent casino
  • Lots of sports to bet on
  • Great advice section
  • Odds get worse the more you win

Bovada Bonus Offers

The welcome bonuses at Bovada are all centered around Bitcoin. For our Bovada review, we have to say that for Bitcoin casinos they are excellent. If you don’t use Bitcoin you can forget them. They will give you a 50% matching bonus on your first deposit if you are betting on sports. If you play in the casino, they will give you a 150% matching bonus of up to $1,500. They will also give you a $10 bonus just for downloading their app and checking them out. It’s a huge casino bonus and less of a bonus for sports players. Our Bovada review reflects this.

And remember, you have to use Bitcoin to take advantage of these welcome bonuses. If you are using a credit card you can get a better welcome bonus at other casinos and this is reflected in our Bovada review.

Usability, Look & Feel

Bovada gets design right. This is the strongest thing going and why our Bovada review is so high. Everything looks great on the site. That is carried over to their app which is the best we’ve ever seen. The entire site has an intuitive feel to it. You can guess where the button you need to push to get the bet you want.

They also have an easy way to see how changing your bet from a straight-up bet to a parlay would go. You have a clean white background with red for the text. This makes it easy to see. All of the buttons are large enough so you can see them easily and make the right bets. This all comes together to form a fully beautiful package that is easy for anyone to use. They get high marks from us in our Bovada review. Well thought out design is on display.

Crypto & Fiat Payments

Bovada accepts credit cards and Bitcoin. It’s pretty obvious they want you to use Bitcoin. If you use your credit card, you’ll get hit with a 4.9% fee for both deposits and withdrawals. If you use Bitcoin you pay no fees. Also, the most you can deposit with a credit card is $1,000. With Bitcoin, you can deposit $5,000. The same goes for withdrawals. Bitcoin withdrawal takes a little while to get initiated but then works out fine.

Credit cards can take up to five business days to process. Our Bovada review is highly positive if you want to use Bitcoin. On the other hand, if you want to use your credit card our Bovada review would become highly negative. But then again this is a Bitcoin casino. If you want to use your credit cards you can find somewhere else to go. And for Bitcoin, just like with our Betwinner review, our Bovada review is all excellent.

Customer Service

Bovada falters a bit when it comes to customer service. And in our Bovada review, we take some points off for this. They have no live chat option which is a big negative in 2020. E serious casino allows for live chat. Oddly, Bovada does not. Nowhere on the site could we find a listing for an email to contact customer service. You get a form you can fill out. If you dig around a bit, you’ll also find a phone number.

It can take them a while to answer their phone. This is not the level of customer service we would expect from a modern casino. This is reflected in our Bovada review. They simply can and should do a lot better than they are. We have no idea why not. Bovada could put a lot more effort into their customer support. To not downgrade them in our Bovada review would be unrealistic for us.

License & Security

This is another area where our Bovada review suffers. Bovada isn’t licensed anywhere. That means that no independent group has taken a close look at the site itself. There is no way – particularly with their casino – if the games are fair and set up correctly. This does not affect sports betting which is good for the player but it does set up some pointed questions in our Bovada review.

We also cannot verify any security measures that Bovada has in place. This sets off many of our red flags. Bovada may be a good sportsbook – and probably is. But we have to be fair in our Bovada review and without a license, we just can’t be sure what is going on here. We hope that Bovada addresses these issues in the future. As it is, we downgrade them in our Bovada review for a lack of transparency.

Rewards & Loyalty Program

Bovada does have a decent VIP program in place. For every dollar, you bet you earn points in the program. These points move you up in VIP status. You can exchange the points for a cash bonus or other prizes. The more you play the more points you get. As you move up the tiers you can qualify for cashback on losses. This is one of the things our Bovada review rewards the casino for.

They know how to appeal to the real high rollers – even if the odds they are offered are lower than newbies. Bovada wants people to keep coming back and their VIP program accomplishes that. Our Bovada review gives them high marks for the effort they have put into their VIP program. It’s well thought out, well organized, and runs automatically. This is in line with their site design which is excellent and also well thought out.

Bovada Sports Betting

Betting Markets

Bovada offers to bet on the following sports:

  • Basketball
  • Baseball
  • Hockey
  • Soccer
  • Tennis
  • UFC/MMA
  • Golf
  • Football
  • Cricket
  • Boxing
  • Politics
  • Horse Racing
  • Motor Sports
  • eSports gambling
  • Rugby League
  • Rugby Union
  • Snooker
  • Darts
  • Cycling
  • Volleyball
  • Beach Volleyball
  • Aussie Rules
  • Handball
  • Futsal
  • Table Tennis
  • Winter Sports

That’s a thorough list and is reflected in our Bovada review. The only things they do not let you bet on is politics or current events.

Odds

The weird thing about Bovada is how they have set up their odds. And this is one thing our Bovada review downgrades them for. When you first sign up for the sportsbook you are offered odds that are better than anywhere else. However, once you pass a certain amount of winnings you are labeled a “professional gambler” and your odds become far worse. They are not even close to the odds you can get at competitor casinos.

Bovada says to look at it as a way to encourage people to come and gamble there. We suppose it does do that but then it actively pushes them away when they do well. To not mention this in our Bovada review would be vastly unfair of us.

You could almost call this a Bovada scam except they are upfront about it. It does beg the question “Is Bovada legit?” It certainly makes you wonder “Is Bovada safe?” To make a Bovada withdrawal seems to go well. We did a Bovada test and everything worked out ok.

Live Betting & Streaming

They do offer an excellent live betting function. Just pull up the game you are interested in and you’ll have a ton of options. Also, while you are watching scores of the game get updated there is a little window where you can also play casino games. That’s a nice touch and is reflected in our Bovada review.

Bovada does live stream many of the games it lets you bet on. We give them points in our Bovada review for having this feature work so well on both their main site and their app. Once again it makes us wonder why they haven’t gotten a license since the rest of their site seems to work so well.

Limits

While Bovada does not have a maximum bet in place they do have a maximum payout. The most anyone can win on any sports bet is $100,000. The maximum you should bet at Bovada is the amount which times the odds will equal $100,000. Otherwise, you are just throwing your money away. This should be fine for most gamblers. If you are a serious high roller you can probably find another Bitcoin casino to bet your money on. That said we do take this into account in our Bovada review, just as we did in our bitcasino.io review.

Product Summary & Conclusion

Bovada sportsbook has a really good look. It’s easy to make bets. The odds that change when you win too much strike us as strange. Once you’ve won enough to be considered a professional, you can then simply walk away and try out a different site. The limit of $100,000 on winnings is also strange but should not impact the average player all that much. Our Bovada review comes out in favor of the sportsbook but we feel there is great room for improvement.

Bovada Casino

Software

Bovada has the following providers – Rival, Betsoft, and Realtime Gaming. They do not list what their ten most popular games are. They do have a total of 200 video slot machines, seven types of blackjack, 17 table games, 17 video poker games, and 15 specialty games including Keno and Bingo.

Their video slots do not represent the most popular games. Instead, you get games with names similar to popular games that are not those games. In our Bovada review, we feel that this is something that can be addressed by adding some new providers. When you have games that nobody has ever heard of and no license this raises huge red flags which are reflected in our Bovada review.

Live Casino

Live casinos are where they put a camera in a real casino and allow you to play. It is designed to give you the feeling of really being in a real casino. And for Bovada it works. We would like to see more live casino games offered in the future as these seem like the best bet offered by Bovada.

Limits

The limits for how much you can bet vary from game to game. Don’t expect to be able to place a huge bet on a slot machine or blackjack but the limits are reasonable. And remember the most you can win anyway is $100,000 so you probably don’t want to be making huge bets here anyway.

Product Summary & Conclusion

Which brings us to the oddest thing about Bovada. You can go to Bovada and see the odds for sports betting. And you can make a fair bet, and then if you win, easily withdraw your money. But you can’t see the odds at the casino. You have no idea if one machine is better than another. You can’t be sure the animated blackjack table is random. You simply have to trust that they are being honest.

Some people are going to embrace Bovada anyway. They are a huge brand in the crypto gambling industry. And their online sportsbook is certainly honest. So, there should be no reason to question if the casino is playing fairly or not. This is a shame because Bovada probably is being honest.

Overall Conclusion

Bovada is great if you want to bet on sports. If you are new to the site, it’s going to have the best odds anywhere. That said if you start winning, they will suddenly start giving you worse odds. They are not licensed anywhere which should give you pause before you decide to try out their casino. There is no way to know if the games are rigged or not. But if you just want to use Bitcoin to bet on sports you should have no problems with Bovada. They have a great layout and they certainly get sport betting right. If they could get a license, we’d probably say the same thing about the casino.
